Invitation

The University of Alberta, in collaboration with The Fiber Society, The Institute of Textile Science, and CTT Group, welcomes you to the 2027 Spring Fiber Society Conference in Edmonton, Canada, from June 2–4, 2027.

Established in 1941, the Fiber Society is a nonprofit professional and scientific association dedicated to advancing fiber-related research through its biannual technical meetings and conferences. Fibers have shaped human history for millennia, and their capacity to drive innovation remains immense. Today, smart and sustainable fibers are driving a new wave of creation, enabling responsive and intelligent wearable systems, minimizing environmental footprints and building circular supply chains to tackle modern challenges.

This conference will provide a focused forum for scientists, engineers, industry professionals, and students to link fiber innovation with sustainability goals, draw inspiration from diverse textile heritages, and examine how advanced fibrous materials can respond to the evolving needs of societies, industries, and markets around the world.

Founded in 1908, the University of Alberta stands among Canada’s top research institutions, recognized globally for excellence in engineering, material science, and applied innovation. Situated along the North Saskatchewan River valley (North America’s largest stretch of connected urban parkland), the university offers state-of-the-art research facilities, collaborative design hubs, and active pilot spaces. Edmonton’s vibrant summer atmosphere offers long daylight hours, beautiful river valley trails, and an accessible gateway to the Canadian Rockies, providing an inspiring backdrop for global scholarly exchange and professional collaboration.

Under the overarching theme "When Textiles Become Smart and Sustainable," the 2027 Spring Conference aims to bring together leading researchers, industry innovators, and emerging scholars from around the world on a shared platform. Participants will present recent research breakthroughs, share technological advancements, and engage in critical discussions to shape the future of smart, sustainable fibrous materials.

We look forward to welcoming you to Edmonton in June 2027.
